Electric vehicles
Range Added per Hour of Charging
How many miles or km one hour of charging gives you back, from charger power and your consumption.
Formula
Range added per hour = Charger power (kW) × Charging efficiency (%) / Energy consumption × 100
Assumptions
Charging efficiency (≈ 90% on AC, higher on DC) covers charger/battery losses; real power tapers near full and in cold weather, so actual time can be longer.
How to read it
This is the most useful number when picking a charger: a domestic socket (2.3 kW) adds about 6 miles per hour, a 7.4 kW wallbox about 25 miles, a 22 kW point up to 75 miles if the car accepts it.
