EV Charging Time Calculator
Battery size, starting and target charge, charger power: how long your EV takes to charge.
Formula
Charging time = Battery capacity (kWh) × (Target charge (%) − Starting charge (%)) / 100 / Charging efficiency (%) / Charger power (kW)
Assumptions
Charging efficiency (≈ 90% on AC, higher on DC) covers charger/battery losses; real power tapers near full and in cold weather, so actual time can be longer.
How to read it
Real power is capped by the weaker of the two: the car’s on-board charger (often 7 or 11 kW on AC) or the charging point. On DC fast charging, power tapers above 80% — which is why road trips usually stop there.
