Compare the Total Cost of Two Cars
Two cars, all costs included over your ownership period: which one really costs you less.
Formula
Total cost over the period = Depreciation + Interest cost + Fuel / energy + Insurance + Maintenance
Assumptions
Constant annual depreciation and insurance/maintenance costs as you entered them: an order of magnitude, not a quote. It does not replace real market values or local prices.
How to read it
A car that is cheaper to buy but thirstier and faster to depreciate can cost more over five years. Look at the total gap and the gap per year: under 5%, the two cars are equivalent and the choice comes down to other criteria.
